Kiith Kohath by Merlkir Kiith Kohath by Merlkir
Kiith Kohath. "He is the true persona of Knight in shiny armor. He is introverted and very humble in personality and how he dresses himself. He is how ever a noble with a castle. He is a master blacksmith of 486 years but looks in his late 20s early 30s. A warrior first always fighting for the good guys. Average build like you normally draw your characters. weapons normally include a shield and sword the sword is a family heirloom."

Banditks' original character. Commissioned by Banditks ;) Took too long.

Simply stunning. I've already raved about your skill in painting (rendering?) armour, but you've done it again. The structure is perfect and the textures ... wow! This is lived in, fought in, spilt on, slightly battered but still very warlike armour, and so it the guy inside it.

Čím jsi to dělal?

protože my jsme jednou jednu měli, ale tu měla mamka půjčenou k práci a když už ji nepotřebovala, zase ji vrátila.

This looks great, I have to ask, how do you do the texture/look of that metal? I can never manage it!
Reply
:iconmerlkir:
Merlkir Featured By Owner Jan 25, 2008  Professional Digital Artist
it's very simple. Instead of trying to paint the texture, I fake it ;) many digital artist do it. It's best when used decently. Just grab an image of rusty metal, interesting rock surface or moon surface in this case. Desaturate. Paste over your image. For starters I set it to multiply (the layer) and erase everything of the layer that's over the rest of the image and leave only the part over the armor. Then I erase with 20% eraser so the texture is not the same value and thickness over the armor, play with opacity, even layer styles like soft light, hard light, overlay, multiply. That's it.
It can enhance the picture, but it shouldn't stand out too much like saying "heya, this picture is really quick, but I've put this awsum texture over it and now it's great!". Decent. :) The foundantion for this is always a good painted surface with clear and right values that show volume. Otherwise the surface will look flat.

i love the knights, this one is looking really realistic( with scars on his face) not like a guy who is going for first time on the battlefield. very good work!

thank you. :) The scars were a late state idea. I was thinking...he looks too elvish even for a fantasy paladin. And then it came to me. He's 480 and something years old, he must've got hit in the face a couple of times during those years. Thus the nasty scars ;)

thank you, I spent more time thumbnailing this time to get it right. It's still a bit awkward, but that's mostly a result of the pose changing in the process of detailing..
