Nilfgaard swordsby ~Merlkir

Another piece for the CD Projekt RED portfolio.
As part of designing the Nilfgaard soldiers I also designed their swords.

They're very much based on historical originals of Italian 15th/16th century swords.

They are inlaid with sun and flame symbols and the cinquedea is decorated with a portrait of Emhyr Var Emreis - the shining Nilfgaardian emperor himself.

(as his nickname is "the White Flame Dancing on the Barrows of his Enemies", I have him stand in flames and skulls.)

Great designs, especially in pommels. Sapkowskin's Witcher books are great so it's nice to see fan art related to his creations.

I'm a bit late but I wish you luck with job application. I also hope your experience in M&B TLD-project as illustrator & designer proves to be useful in this!

Say, since you know much about swords... What is the purpose of small spike near the cross-guard in that cavalry sword?

It's called a spur and we're not really sure what it's supposed to do.

I have to say the ornamentation is brilliant, very fitting to an Empire that has a Sun as its Sigil/Symbol. As well as the Emperor's title. Course I've always preferred practical swords, to pretty swords.

But hay, when your empire is the biggest in all the known world; you can afford to show off.

Love the Nilfgaardian armour. From the fancy, renaissance based plate that Geralt fights them in. To the light cavalry we see in the enhanced edition ending.
