Wanderers by Merlkir Wanderers by Merlkir
The Erringmen (wandering people) travel the vales of Anduin with their wagons, dogs, children and herds of cattle. They're descendants of the Easterlings mixed with Northmen, so I had the pleasure of designing a rather unique look for them.

A piece made for "Heart of the Wild", a supplement book for The One Ring RPG.

What was your inspiration for the people depicted here?

Sort of a blend of gypsy/Caucasian(Circassian etc.) and Slavic influences. The axe is very Indo-Persian.

Clearly the dog that isn't being spoiled rotten is looking at his master and thinking "HUNT! what do we get to kill today boss?"

The other dog is clearly thinking "A dog's best friend is his human!"

Northmen mixed with Easterlings... sounds like some early Russian Nordo-Slavic folk are in order here.

In the interim I have acquired the supplement this illustration is related to. Having read it, I enjoyed the Erringmen more than some of the others due this illustration, which gave a good image to go with the description.

This reminds me of the Avar or early Slav style of dress.

I like the everyday family atmosphere. I've gotten tired of always seeing Easterlings portrayed as evil.

GOD bless
